Introducing Akinyi Juma, a beacon of hope and empowerment for survivors of sexual violence and human trafficking! As a 28-year-old journalist hailing from Kibra slums, Nairobi, and now residing in Kajiado County, Akinyi’s journey is one of resilience, courage, and unwavering determination. A journalist by profession, Akinyi is driven by her passion for storytelling for change, using her voice to shed light on the issues that matter most. In 2019, Akinyi founded Rebirth of a Queen, a transformative community-based initiative born from her own experiences of trauma and adversity. Surviving sexual violence at 16 and domestic violence at 19, Akinyi emerged stronger and more determined than ever to create a better future for herself and others.
Rebirth of a Queen is not just an organization—it’s a beacon of hope, a sanctuary for survivors, and a catalyst for change. Committed to changing narratives and empowering survivors through healing, storytelling, and survivor-centered programs, Rebirth of a Queen is making a profound impact on the lives of girls and young women. From providing basic needs to offering education, healing, and empowerment, Rebirth of a Queen is dedicated to supporting survivors every step of the way. Through their economic empowerment hub, they’re creating dignified workspaces and opportunities for young people to thrive. Akinyi’s dream? To create a world where survivors not only survive but thrive—a world where empowerment and healing are within reach for all. Together, we are powerful, and together, we can create a brighter future for survivors everywhere.
