Zuri Awards is a platform under Zuri Foundation and was founded in 2017 to recognize, celebrate and support unsung exceptional women dedicated to creating positive change through work in their communities while inspiring others through exceptional displays of leadership; rising against all odds, and being courageous in the face of adversity, and it’s part of the International Women’s Day Celebrations. The IWD 2023 theme is #EmbraceEquity.

IWD is a global day that takes place every 8th of March and has occurred for over a century. The objective is to celebrate women’s social, economic, cultural, and political achievements, and the day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity: Imagining a gender-equal, inclusive world, where difference is valued and celebrated. A world where we can collectively forge women’s equality starts by breaking the bias within ourselves, in our communities, workplaces, schools, and campuses.

Zuri Awards’ objectives are in line with the 5th Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) on Gender Equality. Zuri Awards celebrations take place annually, with this year’s 7th Edition taking place on 3rd March 2023.

In the last 7 years, Zuri Awards has increased the number of awards from 4 to 15 categories, attracting 878 submissions, 171 Nominees, Honouring 67 Women, 20 Trade Linkages and Raising over Kshs. 30M for the nominees. Our impact has been possible through engagement with partners and sponsors like the Government, Developmental Partners, as well as Local and Multinational Brands.

Zuri Awards has been able to highlight the key successes of both nominees and honorees through a call for nomination, photography, digital storytelling, public exhibition of their work, and an above-the-line highlight of stories in the media.
