Caroline Nyambura Ng’ang’a’s courage transformed her personal struggle with cervical cancer into a mission-driven journey—founding HELD Sister to uplift, support, and destigmatize care for thousands of women across Kenya. Her story is a powerful testament to individual resilience fueling community healing.
In 2013, Caroline was diagnosed with cervical cancer. Her journey began when a casual birthday “gift” pap smear revealed a tumor, which eventually led to a life-saving hysterectomy .
Deeply affected by her experience—and the stigma she witnessed—she decided to leave her job at Mercy Corps and dedicate herself to helping others in similar distress.
Originally as an initiative to support rural women facing cancer and reproductive health challenges; it later evolved into a full-fledged NGO.
