Rachael Wanyoike Agriculture Nominee # ZuriAwards 2021 is the Managing Director of Solidaridad East &Central Africa a Not for profit organisation that promotes sustainable supply chains to ensure sustainable rural development in developing countries and improve the livelihoods of local communities.

Mary Wairimu Muchai Agriculture Nominee # ZuriAwards 2021 is the Founder of Aqua Hub Kenya, through technology they provide affordable climate smart irrigation technologies to small holder farmers in the quest of improving livelihoods as they increase the net returns and crop productivity.

Mercy Kimani is the founder of CHAQULA and #ZuriAwards 2022 Agriculture Nominee. Her educational background is in early childhood nutrition. Over the years she has worked in the private sector, academia, and internal development consultancies promoting health, inclusivity (Deaf community) and productive participation of low-income communities.

Wanjiku #ZuriAwards 2022 Agriculture Nominee started Kipepeo Green Heritage after serving with volunteers during the COVID-19 lock down period whereby people were looking for something to do, and all they needed was an idea. She would invite friends and we would in turn go plant trees; a few became a crowd, and they blossomed into a tree planting movement commanding crowds of up to 100 persons, cris-crossing the counties, meeting communities and planting trees.

Getrude Okutonyi Alworah is a dedicated agricultural scientist and researcher at the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization (KALRO). With a deep-rooted passion for transforming livelihoods through science, Getrude works closely with smallholder farmers ,especially women to promote climate smart agriculture, improve livestock breeds, and enhance soil fertility. Her work blends rigorous research with a compassionate approach, ensuring that even the most marginalized communities benefit from the latest agricultural innovations.

Beyond the lab and field trials, Getrude is a mentor, mother, and advocate for gender equity in agricultural spaces. She believes that science should speak the language of the people it serves, and she often spends time in rural villages, translating research into practical, life-changing solutions. Whether she’s leading workshops, advising policymakers, or encouraging young girls to pursue STEM careers, Getrude’s commitment to food sovereignty and community empowerment shines through. Her legacy is one of nurturing not just crops and livestock, but people, hope, and possibility across Kenya’s agricultural landscape.

Madina Amina Hussein is an environmental activist and the visionary founder of the Green Peace Initiative, a community-centered organization in Kenya that focuses on climate justice, sustainable agriculture, and youth empowerment. With a strong background in environmental science and community development, Madina has spent over a decade advocating for grassroots led climate action. She is known for mobilizing rural communities, particularly women and youth, to adopt eco-friendly practices such as tree planting, organic farming, and water conservation. Her initiative has impacted thousands by providing training, resources, and platforms for local voices to influence environmental policy.

Driven by a deep passion for social equity and climate resilience, Madina has partnered with both local and international stakeholders to amplify community-led solutions to climate change. Her leadership has earned her recognition from major environmental networks across Africa and beyond. A frequent speaker at regional forums, Madina is also a mentor to young environmentalists and a vocal advocate for inclusive environmental governance. Through the Green Peace Initiative, she continues to lead efforts to build a greener, fairer future rooted in indigenous knowledge, innovation, and collective action.

Rachel Achieng is the Chief Operating Officer at Kisumu Amazing Grace Enterprises and the Founder of Urban Balcony Bounty, a unique balcony farm located on the third floor of one of Amazing Grace’s rental properties.

Driven by a commitment to sustainability, Urban Balcony Bounty promotes efficient and eco-friendly household waste management under the slogan “Reuse, Reduce, Repurpose, Recycle.” The initiative not only ensures responsible waste disposal but also serves as a source of income and a platform for acquiring regenerative agriculture skills. By engaging tenants, employees, and the wider community, Rachel empowers individuals to adopt sustainable practices, ultimately reducing their carbon footprint and fostering a greener future.

Wanjiru Mambo #ZuriAwards 2023 Agriculture Honoree is a seasoned entreprenuer with over 10 years experience doing business the and the founder Wedgehut Foods Ltd a value addition business focusing on potatoes.They supply eateries,Hotels and institutions with ready to cook potatoes in different cut ;Chips/French fries,Cubes,Lyonnaise/Bhajia and Wedges.

Annrose Wanjugu is #ZuriAwards Agriculture Nominee she is 29 years old. She has a background in food security. She is the founder of Organic Agriculture Solutions (OAS). OAS builds the capacity of women in poultry feed formulation using black soldier fly larvae(BSFL) as the key protein ingredient. They have a demonstration farm where we use organic waste as substrate to rear BSFL. They hold trainings on their farm where women poultry farmers are trained on integrating Black Soldier fly Larvae with poultry so as to lower their production cost.
