Nancy Githoitho, launched Limau Cancer Connection in 2017 after the death of her mother from breast cancer and turned her personal loss into hope for many. Through Limau Cancer Connection, sheās building a powerful model of survivor-led advocacy, emotional care, practical aid, and educationācreating a true cancer connection that empowers individuals and communities across Kenya and beyond.
Nancyās initiative addresses a serious gap: empowering survivors, confronting stigma, and offering dignityābeyond medical treatment. The knitted prostheses restore confidence, and the support networks and policy work enrich lives far beyond the breast.
Limau trains local women (including cancer survivors) to knit comfortable, affordable cotton breast prosthesesāaffectionately called āknitted boobs”. Furthermore, the initiative provides emotional support, patient advocacy, and safe spaces for mothers, caregivers, and survivors.
